Taking the Old West to the Martian Frontier, SoulSeesBest’s third IDM release marries the hard red dirt of the Southwestern culture, to the possibility of life on Mars, with a nod to the tribal winds that helped shape the artist, with an electrifying twist of course.

From WriterJoshua: “When I originally recorded this, it was for the obscure live stream, ‘Beats from Scratch.’ That was under an old alias, and I never released it to streaming. It was called ‘Mars in the Seventies.’ It was meant to pose the question, 1970’s or 2070’s? A nod to one of my future presentations, you may be familiar with ‘Country-lectro’ by SoulSeesBest. It speaks about the connection between old and new techonologies.

In about 2 hours, I had developed a drum pattern, and sequence, created the aura with some guitar sounds in garage band, and a simple bass rhythm. As I was playing with one of the electric guitar sounds, I visited the higher regions of my keyboard and the notes really resonated with me. 

I had been listening to a lot of R. Carlos Nakai, and similar artists at that time. Although an electric guitar synth sound, it had a grabby winding aspect between notes. They sort of melted together as I played different scales. I found myself playing it more as a native flute, style instrument, than an electric guitar. That’s when I decided use that pitch for a solo toward the end of the track.”
