Fresh off of his debut IDM single, ‘TIE BALL GAME!’, SoulSeesBest, the electronica moniker of Joshua Lucero, aka WriterJoshua, puts down stakes for his new country electronica fusion ambitions, ‘Country-lectro.’ He released fresh cover art for the ‘living playlist,’ currently on Apple Music and Spotify.
From WriterJoshua: “I was born in Albuquerque in 1984, and moved to Southern California not long after that. However, I spent a lot of time at my grandparent’s house, in Southern New Mexico, on Route 66.
I’m endlessly fascinated with that era of Americana; neon lights, meets the new modern motorcar. When we were on the cusp of electrifying the world, fresh off of the the revolutionary discovery of nuclear energy.
It was a time of old meets new, like nothing else. You may be familiar with the fictional world of Disney-Pixar’s Cars and their.portrayal of ‘Radiator Springs,’ , or the Fallout Universe’s take on ‘futuristic technology’ in a post-apocalyptic world. The past’s perspective on the future encourages a lot of questions about our present. It causes me to look at how we use our technology, and inspires me to use it efficiently, while dreaming of how we might continue to improve on it, from here.
That’s what has driven me to create ‘Country-lectro.; It is my take on bridging the classic with the futuristic. I’ve mentioned many times now, that my range of influence is very vast. One of the strongest, and most deeply rooted, of those influences is in country music. Pair that with my connection to Route 66 and late 90’s upbringing, you get a unique blend of style that sums me up, quite well.
Growing up with the internet changed everything about how media could influence us. We were no longer isolated by our ‘regional programming’ or local cultures. Our generation was connected to the entire world like never before. So, I was rooted in country, and tejano music but, I was also in tune with Power 106 in Los Angeles, and MTV on satellite television. I was listening to everything from classic rock to hip hop, alternative and grunge to Motown and soul. As I matured, I would venture even further out into the universe of genre, exploring the world of cinematic soundscape and video game score, which led me to classical and tribal.
As proud as I am of how far I’ve gone, exploring the universe of sound, and as excited as I am to discover more, I will always be just as proud of my country roots.
‘Country-electro’ is a compilation/playlist of the SoulSeesBest IDM that closest resembles what drew me love music so deeply in the first place. From four legged rhythms, to twangy instrumentation, to nature and animal noise that captures the feeling of being outside the city limits, these are tracks that allow the city-dweller in you to connect with that country bumpkin inside us all.”
