The follow up to the athletic inspired, ‘TIE BALL GAME!,’ ‘Backwards K’ taps into the artist's baseball roots. The moody rhythms, and wavy synths capture what it feels like to get caught staring at Strike Three, the way only a ballplayer could truly understand.

From WriterJoshua: “Even though my vision was always a challenge, I’ve loved sports since I was young, especially baseball. It is played at a much slower pace but, if you know where to look, those exciting moments can be extremely rewarding. 

The game between the pitcher and the hitter can take on many forms, and the higher the stakes, the more intense this can be. While everyone loves to focus on the mentality of an athlete, emotions can play very significant role. More often than not, they can get you in trouble but, in some cases, they can be harnessed and used to a players’ advantage.

While making this one, I was following the College Softball World Series. Some of the most emotionally intense players in the world are women. Especially in the later half of the season, you can see those emotions at play, especially in the circle. 

It reminded me of the way a pitcher can entice a hitter out of their comfort zone, showing them pitches up in the zone, and encouraging a swing an miss. Keeping ones emotions in check, especially in a situation like this, is one of the hardest things in the world to do. 

What’s, possibly, even harder is flipping that on its head, convincing a hitter with two strikes, not to swing at a ball in the zone. This track is an attempt at capturing the feeling watching a pitch that looks out of the zone, change trajectory at the last minute, and catch a corner, ringing you up for the strikeout. It’s like lulling your hitter to sleep with fastballs in, and snapping off a breaking ball that buckles their knees, and all they can do is watch it go by.”
